I kind of feel like running has over taken my life. Which is cool. I knew that when I agreed to train, that running would be pretty much all that I eat, drink, and think.
This last week was cake. With the exception of Saturday. I woke up feeling a bit under the weather (imagine that being said in an British accent). So instead of getting up and running, I turned off my alarm and went back to sleep. Fair enough. I took it super easy all day. I did go to church and teach my 1st graders. Sunday I woke up feeling like a new woman. My long was only 6 miles. I ended up doing 6.5, it was easy.
This morning was the beginning of my 5th week of training. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill. BORING! Why did I run it on the treadmill instead of outside you ask? Well, you see since summer has began, my sweet son who usually wakes up around 6 has been sleeping in until about 8. I like sleep a lot, so instead of waking up early and running when it is cool outside, I choose to sleep. I ran at my gym and then did a little leg work out. Done and done.
The rest of my runs this week are super easy. I think I run a 4 miler, a 3 miler and then a 5 miler. Because I'm feeling rather good with my distance I will probably scratch the 5 miler and do a 7-8 miler. We will see how the week goes.
I was recently asked what I eat before my long runs. Here is my long run morning routine:
As soon as I wake up I drink a cup of coffee. Black. I do not do creamer and sugar. Then I eat a super sugary bowl of cereal with almond milk. I really like Mom's Best Honey Grahams. I actually love them. The sugar gets me through the first part of my long run and then I end up taking a GU. This is not a scientific proven breakfast. It is what works for me.
I have been hearing a lot about Insanity. You know, the new workout fad. I was wondering how intense it was and if it would be too much with training? Anyone out there in cyber space have any thing they can share about the program, I would love to know more.
I just finished insanity! Honestly its a good workout.... definetly tough.... but doable. I did it on top of my normal running although I did give myself more "break" days ( days where I just did insanity and didn't run). I liked the format if the program: warmup, stretching, high intensity intervals., and then cool down stretch.... it never got boring and went fast! I have heard people say they have lost like 30 pounds doing the program but I didn't feel like I necisarly saw a ton of weight loss....but honestly I don't really have that much weight to lose. (Although these last five pounds of baby weight are driving me crazy!). What I did see was major toning and I have to say I think I'm stronger then I've been on years.... especially in my upper body which I gave always been kind of lazy about in the weight room! Hope this helps.... let me know if you have any other questions!
