Okay, I will admit, I DO NOT have a green thumb. I can not keep plants alive. I am terrible. I either don't water enough or water too much. Planting and gardening are for the birds.
My husband was inspired by one of his friends to build a retaining wall in our backyard. This required a lot of blood sweat and tears. He did all the manual labor. I supervised.
I have to say that I was not excited for this. But my hubby was. Marriage=Compromise!
You know, after the wall was built, I kind of warmed up to the idea of a little garden. My sweet Max could help plant. This could be a family thing.
Fast forward a couple of days and a couple of road blocks and the wall is built. It looks great. My hubby worked his butt off.
He informed me we have to fill the wall with soil. Duh! I knew that I just didn't think about it. So we bought soil. This is the part of the story where I am no longer a supervisor but an employee.
Yep. Phil and I dumped all that soil and peat moss. We poured and mixed. We poured and mixed. We poured and mixed. You get the idea.
The next step was the best, choosing what to plant.
I actually enjoyed planting. I made sure to follow the directions extra carefully. Phil and I chose to mix it up with some fruit, vegetables, flowers, and decorative bushes.
We planted blueberries:
We planted eggplant, zucchini, raspberries, marigolds, moss roses, and some bushes that I can't pronounce or began to attempt to spell.
Oh, and how can I forget, we planted strawberries.
I can not wait to see these plants bloom even more then they already have.
Maybe, just maybe, there is a little gardener inside of me.
There is for sure a little gardener in this young man.

I think I might beat your title of being the worst Gardener ever…but I still really want to do some gardening with the kids. Thanks for this post…from one black thumb to another.
